It was with great fanfare and much anticipation that the popular Charleston eatery 167 Raw opened the doors on its new space on King Street in the heart of the city’s downtown. We designed for this Southern favorite an interior that honors the history of the space, restoring and incorporating details such as repurposed millwork, original heart pine flooring, and exposed brick. We further mingled salvaged pieces (bead board millwork, tin ceiling panels, and antique light fixtures) with contemporary elements to evoke a sense of laid-back and relaxed coastal charm. Blue accents thread their way through the restaurant as an homage to its locale and the fresh sea fare for which it is known. Vintage ship tables, a hand-painted oyster map mural, and pieces of art commissioned from local artists all give further nod to the nautical. The location—three times the size of the original on East Bay Street— shares the same popularity with its sister spot: a nightly wait list and queue of eager patrons awaiting a spot at the coveted counter. The vibe is decidedly Mediterranean with a relaxed aura that invites one to stay a while. For more on this project, click here for the charlestoncitypaper.com's review and eater.com's reveiw.
