Vermont Ski Lodge

The house sits on the highest point in Woodstock, Vermont, and enjoys unobstructed 360-degree views of the surrounding mountain landscape.  The spectacular location is enhanced by the equally impressive log house, which perfectly blends with the natural beauty of the wooded hills. The glorious bones of this house existed when our client purchased it, but the property had been unattended for several years and needed updating and refreshing.  We undertook a complete renovation of the kitchen and several bathrooms, as well as refurbishment and decoration of the first and second floors.  The lower level had been an unfinished basement, so construction of a theatre, gym, bunk room, and media/game room were included as part of the renovation. We were given the charge to design a more clean-lined interior and not something derivative of typical log houses.  We chose materials that were complementary to the wood, but fresh and updated in look and feel, while still being appropriate to their location and use in colder, winter months.  We quickly learned the challenges of re-designing a log house, which does not allow for easy changes to plumbing or electrical locations.  However, the inherent texture of the wood and chink, which give a unique backdrop for furnishings, made up for the difficulty on the technical end.
